Robert’s first driving lesson!!
Photo taken about 1970:
“In real life 2654 was a Thornycroft, Woolston, 67ft High Speed Launch, (yard No 4053) she was completed 30/10/43 and disposed of on the 18/6/46. 113 of the type were built and we have three known survivors on Lloyds register. The ST206 is a 37'6" Seaplane Tender so your model had a false number... It is is a scratch built model and doesn't represent a particular class in the RAF, and is certainly not the Thornycroft 2654. The nearest it is in shape and style is to the 41ft 6in Seaplane Tender pictured below. As you can see there has been a lot of artistic license used, but this still does not detract from an absolutely super model. The 1622 is seen in tropical livery with white not black hull.” - Philip Simons, Maritime Historian, May 2003.
